Welcome to March and all the possibilities of Spring
A round up of changes and happenings at Kamsin Kaneko International
Happy March. Before I get into the updates I have for you, please allow me to have a “British moment” and complain about the weather.
It is raining. All. the. time. We had a few days of bright, hot, sunny Singapore weather but then it’s been constant rain. Again. For days on end. Apparently the island is experiencing record rainfall. The area mentioned in this article is not far from where we live.
Record rainfall in Kallang as monsoon surge causes heavy downpour
In other news, Japan has apparently been counting up its islands and has discovered a lot more than it thought it had. Seems they have new methods to go about counting the islands within it’s territory. I mean, it’s not like it’s that hard to hide an island…
There’s a lesson in there somewhere about counting your blessings and realising your life is already far more abundant than you ever thought.
Japan just found 7000 islands it didn’t know it had
What’s New at Kamsin Kaneko International?
I have been working away behind the scenes and updating my website, along with the services I am offering and I’m finding my rhythm with blogging again.
I’ve consolidated my services into one main offer, rather than two different offers at very different price points. The revised pricing reflects a fair assessment of the time it takes me to work with each client, the experience and expertise I bring and the current coaching marketplace. It also reflects my capacity for coaching and the amount of money I need to bring in to continue to do business in Singapore.
Side note: At least two business coaches/ strategists told me I need to be charging approx. US$1000 per month. The coaching industry is, apparently, obsessed with “high ticket” and bloated pricing. But the premise that price you charge reflects your worth as a coach is BS. More on that topic another day. If the US$400 I’m charging is beyond your budget, please consider becoming a paid subscriber of this Substack.

The Real Struggle of Writer’s Block as Experienced by Women Writers
As I mentioned a few weeks ago, I am pivoting my business to work with writer’s who are stuck, experiencing writer’s block, imposter syndrome and self-doubt. This is where I can offer the most value. I can help struggling writer’s find more joy, freedom and authentic expression in their writing journey. I was kind of doing this all along, but I wasn’t able to name it as clearly until now.
The services I offer are not for everyone. If you’re NOT ready to show up to do some emotionally challenging, psychologically stretching and resilience building work - with a healthy side of creative play - then I’m not for you.
If you’re looking for quick fixes, easy solutions or a proven path to publishing success then I’m not your coach. If you’re in a hurry to get your writing out into the world at any cost (either in monetary terms or to your physical or emotional health) there are plenty of people who say they can make you a bestseller in 90 days, but I am not one of those people.
I’d love to work with you if you’re open to and curious about a transformational journey into your creativity. This often starts, perhaps ironically, with feelings of frustration, stuckness, overwhelm and burnout. Lack of motivation and joy in your creative process is a symptom that something needs to change!
Lost in Translation Substack
What about this Substack, how does it fit? I’ve only been here a couple of months, and I tried to moved to options for paid subscribers too soon in January. I’ve pulled back from that for a bit, but still have plans.
You may have noticed I’m not a “natural” sales person. There’s a part of me that’s like, I get joy from writing, I don’t need anyone to pay me for this newsletter. There’s another part of me who’s all Jerry McGuire and show me the money. And yeah, I’m over here trying to reconcile these conflicting voices. I definitely have some thoughts about it all, which you may get to read at some point!
I mean, my worth as a human is infinite and not tied to what anyone pays me. But isn’t it awesome that I can use the skills and talents I have to make money? Why, as women, can we get so uncomfortable with that? We do get uncomfortable with that, don’t we?!
Wait, where was I? Oh yes…
What this means for the newsletter
This Friday (maybe it’s Thursday where you are) newsletter will continue to be free to all subscribers. If you’d like to support me financially then please become a paid subscriber. Doing so now, before there is a lot of exclusive content, will allow me to invest in the help I need to create at my highest level.
Exclusive content for paid subscribers is coming very soon. This is intended to support and enhance the work I do with coaching clients. In other words, I’ll be creating spaces where folks can find encouragement, support and accountability for their writing journey. It’s also a far more affordable option than 1-to-1 coaching, which isn’t accessible to everyone in the current economic climate.
I want to be able to support blocked writers whatever their current financial status (because let’s face it what I get paid is less about my worth and more about what my client’s are able and willing to afford). US$6 per month (or $60 per year, to get 2 months free) is an accessible price for the majority of people in my world. But for those whom it isn’t, there’s also free content too.
