It’s almost a full year since I last posted anything on Substack. Is any one still out there, I wonder?!
I stepped away from my work with book coaching due to ill health over a year ago now. I also had a strong desire to make some “real world” connections through some volunteering work here in Singapore.
Through volunteering as a museum guide at the Asian Civilisations Museum, I’ve been immersed in Asian art history, ancient trade routes and the religions which took root across Asia as people travelled to trade goods and ideas. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this journey and still have so much to learn.
I’ve been diving back into reading literary fiction, which was my first love as a literature undergraduate, as well as novels which could be termed upmarket or book club. Discovering some great local writers, like Tan Twan Eng among many others.
After several years reading a lot of nonfiction - psychology, memoir, self-help and more - it’s fun to get lost in made up characters and unique way ficiton makes us think.
I have also been writing, working mostly on a secret project that I want to keep all for myself and see where it takes me. I feel like talking too much about a project, too soon can divert from some of the energy and enjoyment of just showing up to do the work. In the early stages writing should be only for you.
Which brings me back to this Substack. Although I’m no longer offering coaching, I still have a lot to share about the journey through self-doubt and learning to trust yourself and the creative process.
Because I believe that although every writer and creative experiences bouts of self-doubt, it takes some of us a lot more effort to develop the necessary self-belief to counter those unhelpful thoughts.
I’m calling it Wisdom for Beginners, partly with tongue in cheek, all any of us will ever be when it comes to wisdom is a beginner.
We’ll see where this goes but I’m thinking thought provoking quotes and my thoughts about the inner journey of the creative life.
So if you’re still here, yay! If you have no idea who this is writing to you, then I won’t be offended if you unsubscribe. But if you do want to stick around, I’m happy to have you here!
If you originally found me because you were looking for a book coach, and you’re looking for a coach right now, do reach out and I’ll try to put you in touch with someone who can help you finally write your book.
More soon, Kamsin
Welcome back, I am here and writing because of your coaching, I came to you as a non-writer and you showed me the way, gave me direction and confidence to keep exploring, so thank you. I'm looking forward to reading more from you and hearing your insights.
Welcome back 🧡
